Dr. Jacinta Victoria Muinde

She is a Social Anthropologist, trained at Maseno University (BA) and University of Cambridge (MPhil and PhD). She is currently working at the University of Oslo. Her research focuses on health care and welfare interventions at various scales from state directed programs such as cash transfers and national health insurance to household economies.

She is particularly interested in moral and political economies of health, welfare, development and humanitarianism, epidemics and critical global health, with a focus on East Africa. Her comprehensive, fine-grained doctoral ethnographic research has received distinctions including the ASAUK Audrey Richards Prize and the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Sutasoma Award.

She has proved to be resilient in her career, being able to flourish and make a significant contribution to anthropological scholarship, policy and development through impactful research, including her publications and teaching.
